Petra is not cheap, and the price is the first surprise for many visitors. The good news is that the fee structure is simple once you know it: you pay by the number of consecutive days, Petra by Night is always extra, and the Jordan Pass can fold your ticket into your visa. This guide sets out exactly what you pay, what you get, and what you will be asked to pay for once you are inside.

Petra ticket prices: 1, 2 and 3 days

TicketPriceWho it suits
1 day50 JODThe main trail to the Treasury and Colonnaded Street, or a single big climb.
2 consecutive days55 JODThe Monastery on one day, the Royal Tombs or Al-Khubtha on the other.
3 consecutive days60 JODHikers adding the back-country routes, photographers chasing different light.

The step from one day to two costs just 5 JOD more, and that is the real lesson in the price list. One day gets you to the Treasury and back with a sense of having rushed it. Two days lets you climb to the Monastery without racing the closing time. If you are staying overnight in Wadi Musa at all, the two-day ticket is almost always the better buy.

Multi-day tickets are for consecutive days. Plan your rest day around them, not in the middle.

Opening hours

The gate opens at 06:00. It closes at 18:00 in summer and 16:00 in winter. Arrive at opening: the Siq is cool and nearly empty for the first hour, and that is when the Treasury is at its best.

The Jordan Pass: what it includes

The Jordan Pass is the government's bundle for tourists. It costs 70–80 JOD, depending on the tier, and combines Petra entry with the tourist visa waiver. You buy it online before you fly and show it on arrival and at the Petra gate.

  • Buy it if you need a Jordanian tourist visa and are visiting Petra anyway — the visa saving is what makes it good value.
  • Skip it if you do not need the visa waiver, for example if you are arriving on a day trip from a cruise or a border crossing with different rules. Then a plain gate ticket is simpler.
  • Check the conditions on jordanpass.jo before you buy. The visa waiver comes with conditions that change.

Petra by Night is extra

Petra by Night runs on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, starting at 20:30 from the visitor centre. It costs 17 JOD and is not included in a day ticket or the Jordan Pass. See the Petra by Night guide to decide whether it is worth it for you.

Where to buy your ticket

Day tickets are sold at the visitor centre at the main gate in Wadi Musa. Jordan Pass holders show their pass at the same gate. Buy only at the official counter, never from someone offering tickets in the street, and keep your ticket with you all day, especially on a multi-day visit.

What your ticket does not include

The ticket gets you in. Almost everything else inside costs extra, and much of it is negotiated on the spot. Expect these figures:

  • Horse, gate to Siq: included in the ticket. Handlers expect a tip of 3–5 JOD.
  • Carriage through the Siq: about 25–30 JOD one way.
  • Golf-cart shuttle to the Treasury: about 20 JOD one way per person — buy at the kiosk beside the gate.
  • Donkey up the Monastery stair: about 20–25 JOD one way.
  • Licensed guides are hired at the visitor centre and are required for the Back Door route from Little Petra.

A realistic budget

For two people on a two-day ticket, entry alone is 110 JOD. Add Petra by Night and that becomes 144 JOD before hotels, meals, rides or transport from Amman. The Cost estimator below adds all of it for your group.

Common questions

How much is the Petra entrance fee in 2026?
A one-day ticket is 50 JOD, two consecutive days 55 JOD and three consecutive days 60 JOD. Petra by Night is a separate 17 JOD ticket.
Is the Jordan Pass worth it just for Petra?
The Jordan Pass costs 70–80 JOD and bundles Petra entry with the tourist visa waiver. If you would otherwise pay for a visa on arrival as well as a Petra ticket, it usually works out cheaper — check the current terms on jordanpass.jo before buying.
Does the Jordan Pass include Petra by Night?
No. Petra by Night is always a separate 17 JOD ticket, whether you hold a Jordan Pass or a regular day ticket.
What does the Petra ticket not include?
Your ticket covers site entry and the short horse ride from the gate to the Siq (a tip is expected). Carriages, golf carts, donkeys, camels, guides and Petra by Night all cost extra.
